CHAN 2022: Salisu Yusuf Dismisses World Cup Vengeance Ahead Of Nigeria, Ghana Tie

By: Onyekachi Chimezie

Head coach of Super Eagles B Salisu Yusuf has made it clear that the team’s goal is not to exact revenge for Nigeria’s defeat to Ghana on the way to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The 60-year-old coach was reinstated by the NFF as Super Eagles’ assistant coach and the head coach of the U-23 national team as well as the CHAN team in April said his current team is more concerned about qualifying for Algeria 2023 rather than aiming for a ‘revenge.’

“I won’t say we are seeking revenge against Ghana because of what happened in the last game on the road to the Qatar World Cup. We want to win and qualify for the final stage of the competition in Algeria next year. That is basically what we are pursuing.”

The former Enyimba and Kano Pillars manager who took the Eagles B to a second place finish at the championship in Morocco 2018 concluded that fans can choose to call it anything they like after the outcome of the match during a session at the training pitch of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

“However, if we beat them to the ticket, which we definitely hope to achieve, then whatever description anyone gives it should be a matter of choice.”

The Eagles B have stepped up their workouts at the training ground inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on a daily basis.

19-year-old Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole who was called to replace injured Goalkeeper Victor Sochima of Rivers United joined the team late on Tuesday to keep the number of players still in camp at 34.

Salisu Yusufs’ home base eagles played two friendly games against youth teams on Thursday as part of their build-up to the two legged Qualifying matches against Ghana billed for 28th August in Cape Coast and 3rd September in Abuja.
