NPFL: Shooting Stars unveil Ogunbote as new head coach

Nigeria Professional Football League side, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have unveiled Gbenga Ogunbote as their new head coach.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Monday afternoon.

Ogunbote takes charge from Edith Agoye, who had his contract terminated at the end of last season.

The experienced tactician left another NPFL side, Remo Stars early this month after the expiration of his one-year contract.

The former Enugu Rangers International and Giwa FC soccer tactician, who sign on a dotted line with the Oluyole Warriors was presented to the stakeholders in presence of Oyo state commissioner for youths and sports, Hon Seun Fakorede, Chairman Oyo state Sports Council, Hon Gbenga Adewusi ‘Arole’, Chairman Shooting Stars, Hon Babatunde Olaniyan, former Shooting Stars Baba Lankondoro, Gboyega Makinde, Barrister Jubril Mohammed, Oyo state executive member, Kazzem Ibadan and Tobi Oyewunmi.

Speaking at the unveiling programme, Shooting Stars Chairman, Hon Babatunde Olaniyan commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his untiring supports since the inception of his tenure and appreciated the governor and major stakeholders in the state for their massive support towards the end of last season.

Olaniyan described Ogunbote as one of the finest football coaches in Nigeria, whose records speak volume – judging by his previous clubs. He empathized on his recent feat at Remo Stars which earned the Sky Blue Stars continental ticket for the first time.

However in the unveiling, Coach Gbenga Ogunbote (The Oracle) has called for support from stakeholders (Management & fans) and promising to change the fortunes of club in the coming season.

The former Remo stars coach made this known during his unveiling programme as the new coach of Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

This is third time Ogunbote will be managing the Oluyole Warriors.

He has also handled top clubs like Sunshine Stars, Enyimba, and Enugu Rangers in the NPFL.

Shooting Stars barely escaped relegation last season.
