Too Bad: MFM FC Goes Into Extinction ; Pastor Olukoya Hands Off.

The toxic environment of the Nigeria League has once again extinguished one more privately owned club, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club, or simply MFM FC, of Lagos, exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

The Lagos-based Nigerian professional Football League club was relegated to the lower cadre of the league, Nigeria National League at the end 2021/2022 Season.
They finished last with 36 points from 38 points at the end of the season. MFM had in 2016\2017 season finished second in the league behind Plateau United, with 42 points from 38 matches. They were the country’s second representative in the 2017-2018 African Champions League, where they were knocked out in the second match.

Exclusivenews further gathered that General Overseer of MFM, Pastor Olukoya has refused to sponsor the football club again. The club is wholly owned by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, a Pentecostal Christian Organization. The toxic environment of the league which has not been too favorable for privately owned clubs to thrive in the country, was given as the major reasons for pulling out of the league.

It could be recalled that only last season, another privately owned club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, which had represented the country in the continental championship, also went into extinction.

MFM FC had in 2013 took over the slot of Bolowatan F.C. in the Nigeria National League. The founder of Bolowotan FC, Toyin Gafaar, had handed the over the slot to the church (MFM) to manage without collecting any money in return.

On 31 August 2015, MFM FC was promoted to the Nigeria Premier League.

Before then, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club of Lagos had won the maiden edition of The Church World Cup in India . The Nigeria representatives achieved this feat after defeating the United Church of Colombia 7–0 in the final of the mundial which took place in Goa, India. MFM FC dominated the encounter from the outset in what turned out to be a mismatch.

MFM FC made their historic Nigeria Professional Football League debut as they beat the Solid Miners’ of Nasarawa United by 2–1 on their tentative home soil at the Aper Aku Stadium in Markudi, Benue State of Nigeria. Former Sunshine Stars of Akure player, Musa Newman scored the first-ever goal of the club in their first NPFL game in the 18th minute and Chukwuka Onuwa’s second gave the debutants a two-goal lead, before Ifeanyi Nweke of Nasarawa United pulled one back.

After week four of the 2015–16 NPFL, ‘The Olukoya Boys’ of MFM FC were already in a comfortable second position tied with the same 9 points as the Lobi Stars, with three wins and one loss (a 3–0 defeat at the ‘3SC’ Shooting Stars of Ibadan).

What was not sure at the time of this report, is, if the MFM management will return the club to the original owners, Bolowatan FC or they will dispose of it.
