Obasa Games 2025 Group Stage Set After Hephzibah Sports Records Six-Goal Victory
Thirty two teams advance to the group stage after an intense preliminary round across Agege and Abesan

The race for the Obasa Games 2025 football crown intensified on Saturday afternoon as Hephzibah Sports delivered the most emphatic performance of the tournament so far. Their six-goal demolition of Smadeck FA at the Anwaru Islam Model College pitch stood out as the biggest winning margin of the entire preliminary stage, a clear statement of intent from a team brimming with attacking confidence.

With the preliminary round now concluded, the competition officially enters the group stage. A total of thirty matches were played across Agege and Abesan, producing thirty winners who will now join the defending champions FC Victory alongside Vinod FA to complete a thirty-two-team field. These teams have been drawn into eight competitive groups.

Only the top two sides in each group will progress to the Round of Sixteen, a format designed to ensure intensity, strategy and unity at every stage. Matches will continue across three venues. Anwaru Islam Model College Oniwaya Agege will host fixtures alongside Dairy Farm Secondary School Agege and Abesan Mini Stadium in Abesan.

This year’s edition is one of the most competitive in recent history, featuring sixty-two teams drawn from all twenty local governments and thirty-seven local council development areas. Grassroots football across Lagos continues to flourish, and the Obasa Games remain one of the strongest platforms for young players, academy teams and community sides to showcase their talent.

A total prize pool of six million naira has been allocated for the football event. The champions will walk away with a giant trophy, medals and a remarkable three million naira, further elevating the stakes for participating teams.
